Creating the Vanity

When we first realized we'd need to remodel a bathroom ASAP, we started buying the accessories and materials we'd need to put it together. About six weeks ago, we bought this "court cabinet" (I'd call it a buffet, but whatever) to cannibalize into the vanity.

We took off the top half--which we'll have to find a use for--and I cut a hole in the counter for the sink. Then, since the drawers would be in the way of the sink bowl, I cut off the sides and moved them over a couple inches. I thought I'd have to turn them into fake fronts, but the shrinking method seems to be working as well.

Now it's in, which allowed us to have the granite fabricator come out and take measurements. I love the wood detail with the vintage-y tiles. It looks so good.

But you know what doesn't look so good?

Mistake #1 of the bathroom renovation:

The edge tiles angle up slightly, and I didn't think about how this would be a problem when I was laying the tile. Ryan is going to work on a solution to cut the bottom so it can sit flat against the uneven floor. Meanwhile, I will hang my head in shame.
