With the retaining wall trench completely dug, I ordered the base rock, which was delivered at 9:00 this morning.
I didn't think it looked like enough at first, but getting up close I realized it did look like 1.5 cubic yards, a little less than the amount the block wall company said we'd need for four to six inches of base for a 47 foot wall.
I'm not exactly sure how much the aggregate will compact, however, but I'm hoping it's a lot. I filled the trench almost to the top (the grass side is the correct grade, but the dirt side is higher) with 24 wheelbarrows full (well, half full, since that's the weight I could handle), even though one of the rows of block will need to be below grade.
But, I still have about 1/3 of the gravel pile left.
