Once everything was in working order in the kitchen, it became much harder to get motivated about the small details. Looking at those incomplete pieces, I always think of Meghan's dad, who completely renovated their basement himself, but could never find the motivation to put in the baseboards (her mom hired someone to install them several years later). But now that I'm newly unemployed, it's time to start tackling the final projects.

Since November, the cabinet next to the stove--which we customized to fit the skinny space using a much wider cabinet box--has sat incomplete, with just a cover panel on the side. We couldn't use standard cabinet hinges because the cabinet door is not standard door thickness (we made it out of a cover panel), but I finally found hinges that would work. They aren't the greatest hinges, but after some finagling I was able to hang the door, plus add the handle, cut a shelf to size, and cut and install the base trim.

I also started on the trim around the door to the dining room. We'd already put in the mouldings on the kitchen side, but there was a huge gap between the door frame and the trim thanks to the thickness of the drywall. I used some shoe moldings to cover the gap, nailing it where I could but relying on wood glue for a lot of the length. It's taped up and drying now.
