All I was able to do was loosen the countertop, so I pulled it off, hoping I'd get a better look at what was inside. It was then that I realized that I couldn't see how the cabinet backs were secured because there are no cabinet backs. The funky paint job had tricked me into thinking that there were cabinet backs.

And So It Begins...
We started cleaning the kitchen this weekend, moving out things that we won't need for the next few weeks, and organizing the garage back room to begin storing everything. The kitchen is a lot bigger without the breakfast nook filled, but then I'm reminded how the extra space is useless space.
This afternoon, I was trying to figure out how the cabinets are attached to the walls. We don't want to just destroy them because we'll reuse them in the garage. I couldn't find any screws, and just one nail sticking out awkwardly from the back of the cabinet next to the stove. I decided we'd probably just have to pry the cabinets off the walls, but to test my theory, I needed to get a pry bar between the wall and the cabinet. So, I started knocking holes in the wall.
I'd forgotten what a pain demoing lath and plaster is after watching months of shows where drywall is easily pried off the studs.
